Julianne Metzger Taylor is an emerging multi-genre writer, working in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.
Her work explores resilience, identity, and the emotional legacies of relationships—especially the ones we have with ourselves. Her writing is known for its clarity, emotional resonance, and wry, incisive humor. She is drawn to stories that dwell in the gray—those liminal spaces where duty and desire, strength and vulnerability, and loneliness and belonging intersect.
Julianne is currently pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing through the Northeast Ohio Master of Fine Arts (NEOMFA) program via Kent State University. She began her writing journey through a six-week fiction workshop with the Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and later trained at Johns Hopkins University. She holds master’s degrees in management and public relations, and a bachelor’s degree in communications and journalism from the University of Maryland University College.
She served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for 13 years, rising to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Her assignments included deployments aboard the USS Iwo Jima (LHD-7) and roles at the White House and the Pentagon. After separating from the military, she continued her public service as a civilian at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She brings this depth of experience to her creative work, writing with authenticity, precision, and with consideration of the complexities of being human.
A cisgender woman of Filipina and Irish descent, Julianne comes from a military family. She was raised in Stafford, Virginia, and now lives in Ravenna, Ohio.
